Pennsylvania casinos paid $127.7 million last year for five satellite casino licenses, and the first one is set to open next year. But state lawmakers are apparently still hungry for more license fees, and Pennsylvania is about to test the market again for the so-called mini-casinos. The Keystone State’s entire casino industry is being shut down at 6 a.m. Tuesday due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, by order of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. At the time the gaming board made its announcement Monday afternoon, six casinos were still operating: Hollywood Casino, Meadows Racetrack and Casino, Mount Airy Casino Resort, Mohegan Sun Pocono, Presque Isle Downs & Casino.
Locally, the order affects Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Fayette County and Meadows Casino and Racetrack in Washington County. Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh's North Shore was closed Sunday. Six casinos had already closed prior to the order from the PGCB. Those casinos were Valley Forge, Harrah’s Philadelphia, Parx Casino, Rivers Philadelphia, Rivers Pittsburgh and Wind Creek Bethlehem. Valley Forge properties closed on the morning of March 13th; Harrah’s followed the next morning.
The COVID-19 pandemic closed all commercial and tribal casino properties in the United States. This map tracks reopening across the country at the property-level. A property is considered open based on gambling availability. Please contact an individual property to determine what amenities are available.
